April 13, 2022: When White Bear Lake thaws in the spring, it starts thawing around the edges first because the water is shallower there. As it thaws, the ice floating on the lake is pushed by the wind to one side of the lake. When the wind changes, especially in the opposite direction, the ice gain momentum and crashes into the opposite shore of the lake and breaks up causing piles of ice chunks as seen in the following pictures.
